I need to find some better contact lenses...

I've been using America's Best-esque Sofmeds for several years, and while they feel comfortable for a while, after about 6-8 hours, they dry my eyes out, become red, and I sometimes get headaches because of it.

I've tried a couple of other brands, most recently Acuvue 2, but while it was a little bit more comfortable, the lenses did not hold on to my eye and my vision was less clear with these. If I looked to the extreme right or left, they would start to pop out. It wasn't the wrong prescription either, all 3 numbers were the same on the Sofmeds and the Acuvues.

Any other recommended brands I can try so I can chuck these Sofmeds for good? These are regular soft contacts with UV protection. I usually wear them 15-18 hours daily (possibly part of the problem, but I have no choice really.

A few questions.

Are you current on your prescription?
If not, thats the first thing you should do

Did you eyes always have drying problems?
Use drops when your eyes get dry, also, have a pair of glasses handy if you need to take your contacts out for an hour or two

What solution are you using? you might want to try a soaking solution.

I use Acuvue 2, and dont suffer from dryness or anything like that, buy my prescription is up to date, and i take them out for 8 hours a day (sleep).

Proclear Compatibles is a good brand for extended wear. I went from Frequency 55 to this and I can feel the world of difference.

Prescription is current, about 4-5 months old at the most. I do have dry eyes naturally it seems, I always have Clear Eyes and crap on me most of the time.
The solution I'm using is a generic Albertson's solution, but when I use ReNu or B&L, the problem is a bit worse it seems.

Since you are wearing them so long, your eyes are probably not getting enough oxygen, hence the symptoms. So, you either need to wear your contacts less or try some that let more oxygen through. I was having the same problems and my optometrist put me in O2 Optix by Ciba Vision...they're quite nice. They'll have a different fit than your old ones though, so you'll need to go see your optometrist to ensure that they fit well.

Make sure you didn't mix the lenses or stuff if you have different prescriptions for each eye. Wrong prescriptions can cause that. Also, are you changing them on time? If they deform and stuff they can get uncomfortable or cause headaches.

My prescription recently became the same for both eyes, incl base curve, strength, etc. I do no change them on time, the ones I'm wearing are 2 week lenses, but I think I'm over a month already. The issue still comes up even in the first week though, so I may try a couple of the other lenses recommended in here.

I use Frequency 55 and have that problem from time to time. My eyes will just dry out for no apparent reason. And its always just one eye not both. I have drops that i use that usually work pretty well but its still rather annoying. I need to buy new lenses soon as well so maybe ill try something else.

Face it man. You're going blind. ;)

I might as well be, my vision is terrible. :(

Just kidding there. You should go to a eye doctor and try out a bunch of samples.

Maybe you need glasses or perhaps Lasik.
