I am at college. My network is OK, but definitely not the fastest thing out there. No file sharing programs are working for me. Morpheus, Direct Connect, BearShare, everything runs slower than Fatalbert and ForsakenGemini on a hot day. Can someone give me some advice? I want songs! I want games! Help me!

Willing to try anything. It seems my college is blocking file sharing somehow on certain programs. Direct Connect used to be great, but all of a sudden it runs horribly slow.

Nothing like universities restricting bandwidth and blocking certain ports. Gees why would they ever do such a thing. Oh wait thats right because file sharing generally means illegal activity. Actually most universities restrict the bandwidth so that students are actually able to do homework and access course materials.

it doesnt work though--- my college has been blocking most of the ports and limiting bandwidth since last year- but i know that i'm not doing anymore work as a result of that. I still spend most of my time at my computer talking on AIM or ATOT or something else to pass time. I will do anything to get me out of homework.

No I am not against it. I do get pissed off, however, when internet connections suck because bandwidth is being eaten up by people downloading and uploading ridiculus amounts of files. I personally work for the Computing Center at my university and they have implemented bandwidth throttling because 7 users accounted for 92% of the university's bandwidth last year. The guy that lived next door to me was one of the 7. He would download episodes of Star Trek all day long instead of going to class. He had every episode ever made and would even download them in different languages just to increase his connection. Well now that bandwidth throttling is in effect he can't even get above a 56k connection on the university's network.

I do not care that people share files, but the ones that run FTP's with enormous maximus connections. I usually get most pissed off when I am trying to research something for a project and the connection sucks.

Have you tried WinMX? You can change it's default ports incase they are blocked or you can tell it that you are behind a firewall and it should work fine............

WinMX is my favorite file trading. I can find much more stuff then I can with Kazaa or Morpheus plus you can dl highquality MP3s. No hack needed..... If you use it though you should download the server list here..... http://www.trippymx.co.uk. It gives you a whole bunch of old Napster servers you can still connect to to get bunches of more results. :D

I had the same problem my freshman and sophomore years. Living in the dorms and always having something to do killed my school work and efforts. Now that I am off campus I find myself actually completing my homework and studying. Not to mention my grades have increased by a lot. I still spend a lot of time screwing around and playing CounterStrike, but I always make sure I get my school work done. Well at least I usually try to get my work done.;)
