Hello,

I am trying to convert the audio in some video files i have. The video plays just fine but the audio is not compatible with my player. How can i convert the audio from ac3 to something else? Mabybe mp3? I only want to convert the audio the video is just fine. Also while im here, can you guys recommend a very easy application that i can use to convert Avi files into mpeg . Thanks in advance for the replies.

Use virtualdub. Set video to direct stream copy then go under streams-stream lists you can either save as wav then change audio to something else using another program or right click the stream-full process mode then right click again-compression. You might need codecs to do this. I can't remember the mp3 codec I used to get virtualdub to compress to mp3 to higher bit rates. Ill try to find it maybe someone else knows?
I also have to do this for a player I have. Its the archos av700. Nice player but it doesn't play too many formats.

Is this for a portable player?

As for a general video converter, google STOIC. They have a really easy to use program that can convert between many different formats (both audio and video) as long as you have the codecs installed.

The free version lets you convert files with no problems - the pro paid-for one adds clip cutting and splicing, which i've never needed.

Mr. Smiley Omg. I have the exact player as you The Archos Av700 40gb model. Have you encountered the problem where you cant play some Avi formats? Ive found that the player is twitchy at playing avi file formats. Are you able to fix this? I figured if i could convert them to mpeg and then back to avi it may allow the player to play it.

Yeah, what I did with div3 and older versions of divx that don't work with it is convert the files to xvid. This fixed the problem for me. 🙂

I am ashamed to say that I barley understand what you are saying to me. I don?t know anything at all about video decoding, converting, transcoding, compressing, decompressing and what not. So can you please explain to me fully how to convert the AC3 audio in an avi file to something that will work for the av700 and how to make those feisty avi files play. And please include which program to use. If you can please do this I will owe you my body. Im not asking for an indepth tutorial or anything. Once again thanks for the help.
