Okay, I have a 1992 Infiniti G20 with 195/60R/14" BridgeStone's on it (they were already on the car, I didn't buy them).....

I'm a college student and can't afford Pirelli's or anything nice like that. I just need tires that will be good enough to last me about another year or so until I get rid of this car. Also, I live in Kansas so the winters aren't too bad.......I haven't had to buy tires in a long time, and not sure which budget tires are best to buy.

Any suggestions of what to buy, where is the cheapest place?

Thanks....

Yokohama :D

I love Yokos. I can't say I can recommend an exact model but just check around on tires.com

I believe they still have reviews and stuff on that site.

also, any experiences ordering on-line?? Isn't shipping a lot and defeats the purpose??

Go to Tirerack to compare all the tires available for your car. That information is invaluable for selecting tires, actually some of the cheapest Korean tires, etc. tend to be very good for not much money.

I was talking to a guy in Western Auto down here about the Tire Rack and he said he'd match the price. So it is worth calling tire shops to see to avoid shipping costs.

tirerack.com (i hope that is the website) is pretty good with pricing, and they don't rape u on shipping.

I don't suppose I could interest you in a barely used set of Firestone Wilderness AT tires, eh?

Man, I almost think I should buy some used tires.....Might save me on some money since I am only going to need the car for about another year or so....

Check out the Dunlop D60-A2's at Tire Rack for $43/each. I used to have them before I upgraded to something a little stickier and with a higher speed rating. They're great tires!!

Shipping really isn't that bad, you'd be surprised. Check the price at local tire joints, once you add in shipping you'll still probably end up paying less than they would charge you. You can even have Tire Rack ship to your local tire store so you don't have to worry about lugging them down there. Just make sure you ask the store beforehand, so they're aware that tires for you are coming to them.

Hankook. It's a So. Korean tiremaker. I've had 2 sets
of these and put 85k mi. on each set. Cheap too.

by the end of the year I think I will have to replace my tyres... they are almost close to their 60,000 mile life..
the tread is there, plenty of it, but its still its not the standard height for the tyre.

Wow, if you have to unload the car soon, then used tires might be a good idea. Otherwise, your local Sam's Club will have the best prices you'll ever find. If there is a local Tire America having a promotion on certain tires, they will match Sam's Club price and might still give you the promotion savings. I did that with a Michelin promotion that got me a free battery when buying four tires. Steer clear of Michelin if you're trying to save money, though.

Heck, if you aren't keeping the car very long, I'd pick up some 24.99 Guardsman tires from Sears. They'll be shot after 25k miles, but you'll have got rid of it by then anyway.
