I need to buy a new HD: WD or Seagate?

I need to but a new hard drive for storage, and I'm trying to decide between Western Digital and seagate. This is a regular IDE interface, not SATA. The drive I'm replacing is a Maxtor (which has died and been replaced by the company three times) so I don't want to but this brand anymore...

So:

Western Digital or Seagate?
 
Eh, both are fine. I've had zero problems with either, but have had problems with every Maxtor I've ever bought.

JB has 8MB Cache memory, while BB has 2MB only

I wouldn't mind both, both brand I heard are good drives. I've only used Maxtor and Western Digital so I can't really comment.
 
i had just ordered a maxtor 200gb diamondmax 10 then i saw this thread and cancelled. Personally i've used maxtor w/o problems for years and have the 300 gb sata diamondmax 10 too, but now i think i'll get another wd. Or try seagate for the first time.

As for Maxtor, they're not getting my business ever again... The HD which failed on me yesterday had almost 80 GB of data, most of which I can only *hope* to recover... like I said, it's been replaced three times already in the past three years. I can probably dig out the old thread when I first told the story here, on AT...
 
I use both, never had a problem with either, and they perform about the same, but the seagates are a bit quieter. I've never had either a WD or Seagate fail on me, but the 5 year waranty on seagates is an added plus in their favor.
 
I have a lot (and I repeat a lot) of western digital drives... I've had three go bad but I still use them...

I just bought a 200GB seagate and I might be switching over to Seagate from now on... I'll just have to see
 
It's really quite hard to pick between WD and Seagate, since I've had good experience with both -- just pick the less expensive of the two.
