I'm going to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and I have never been there before. Could you people tell me what to do and not to do, where to go and not to go, etc.? I'd really appreciate it. I'm already planning on hitting up the Bacchus, Zulu, and Rex parades, but as to Bourbon St./The French Quarter and the rest of New Orleans, I have no idea what's right/wrong. Thanks!

Don't bare your breasts to the public....no matter how much they beg.....

Do visit Pat O'Briens and have a Hurricane and Cyclone.

Isn't Mardi Gras this weekend? I'm pretty sure it is, and you are missing it right now!!!

The only thing I'll say (and I speak from experience), is DO NOT PEE in the street. If you get caught, you are fvcked. If you must pee, make sure you are blocked on one or more sides, and that there are NO cops close.

I have been the past two years, and I would say the two biggest don'ts are no public urination and no fighting. Pretty everything else goes. You will see kids that look 12 years old smoking and drinking a beer right in front of the cops with no problem. If want to get the mardi gras parade atmosphere, stay around uptown. Thats mostly families and teenagers getting drunk and hanging out watching parades. If you want the crazy girls gone wild sorta stuff, head down to the french quarter.

I heard about a section of the town that was supposedly the "bad part" and you'd get robbed or mugged. True?

If it's questionable as to which sex the person you are dancing with is, it's a guy.

I've never been there....but, I would say buy lots of beads before you get to New Orleans.

Do not give money to any beggar...the rest will hound you if they see you. We made the mistake once and got mobbed by 6 other bums before we could get away. Avoid alleys and narrow, poorly lit streets...there are a lot in New Orleans even during Mardi Gras. Avoid the new artist district (around the new Hilton and casino)...it's fairly empty at night and far away from the quarter and help. Stay with people, do not carry a wallet or jewelry and do not wear anything you really want to wear again (just in case).
