I need the Skinny on a flat 3.5" HDD cooler

I definately need to cool the drives down in my boxes. My new and old rigs have both got 3 HDD's + 2 optical+ floppy in each box. they are dell and gateway boxes, and they are out of PCI slots too.

yes i know i need to buy some bigger boxes, but thats not an option. I'm bout broke.

The old gateway actually just pooped the vid card after recently adding the 3rd HDD (that DL's 24/7 with constant reads + writes).

they're all hot to the touch, but not burning yet (hot enough you wouldnt wanna put your forskin on it, or maybe ya would)

anyway, I was thinking about poking out the extra floppy panel on the fronts to expose the top hard drives, and allow a little venting. (should i cover these with screens, or put fans in them?

should i just lay/mount a fan on the bottom of the case pointing up at them? maybe diagnally pointing to the ends of the drives from the bottom center of the cases? should i get a HDD mountable cooling device to put between the bottom drives? Or mount a huge fan on the end of the drives, to blow between them?

the drives are same in both boxes:

DVD
CD
Floppy
4mm
OS HDD
3mm
Storage HDD
8mm
Storage HDD
6 inches to bottom of case
(these measurements are not exact, i need to bust out a ruler)

on my main rig the 2 storage drives are in RAID0

yeah, I know there's not much room between them, that why i need some help 🙂

I can afford to buy some decent stuff, but i'm very space limited (between drives).

I've done a little bit of searching, but most of them are upwards of 10mm. If i had that much space, i probably wouldnt have a problem.

3 fan bay coolers work great, but sometimes they can be a pain in the butt to make sure there's enough space between the HD and the fans. Zalman offers a hefty 12? heatpipe design cooler which in the tests, cools the HD by as much as 15C! The best way to cool your HD's is with mounted fan or the Zalman heatpipe HD cooler.

this Zalman 11 heatpipe cooler is about 11mm offf the top of the drive (and im in a cage) so there's no way it'll fit into the limited space i'm dealing with.

i'm looking for either something ultra thin to go between the drives (like 4-5mm tall) or some kind of fan to either sit in the case, or mount on the ends of the drives.
