I need Tech Help badly!

I recently built a pc gigabyte ga-965g-ds3 board, core 2 6400, bfg 7950 gt 512 vid card, two 512 6400 corsair ram sticks, and a gigabyte rocket cpu cooler. tried to boot up and got no video from either the vid card or the on-board with the vid card removed. No beeps either. All the fans and lights on the case work and pc powers up and down. Just no bios screen. Do I have to flash the board for the core2 or some other random piece of equipment i have hooked up? anyone have any ideas?

First ensure that you have the ATX12V cable plugged into the motherboard, it's the square 4-pin one that has two yellow wires and two black wires. Secondly, ensure that your cards and memory modules are firmly seated, and that the keyboard is in the correct port (for PS/2 keyboards, it goes in the green one).

If problems persist, I have some additional things to check listed in a document, 2nd link on this page: http://www.mechbgon.com Hope that helps! 🙂

O.K. yes the four pin cable is in, yes the memory is firmly seated, as for the keyboard I havent conn'd it yet. But I don't get any response at all from the pc nada to the monitor. My psu is only 400w and probably pretty crappy seeing as it came with the case. Now the interesting thing is all documentation says that my case does not come with a psu but here i am looking at it. Might I just be under-powered?

Yeah, especially with a fairly power-hungry video card. I wouldn't skimp on the power supply with such valuable hardware.

Speaking of the power supply and video card, did you remember to plug in the PCI-Express power cable to the video card?

If you mean the 6 pin plug then yes. I'm going to try boot up with almost nothing running, no fans (other than cpu) and only 1 stick of ram. Crossing my fingers...

Well that didn't make any difference. mobo, cpu, cpu fan, 1 512mb ram, and front panel were the only thing on the psu. Fan came on and pc power control worked (I turned it on) Still nothing on screen and no beeps. I saw no bent pins on board and i haven't touched bottom of cpu or anything. I'm starting to think i have a bad mobo. Shouldn't i get beeps if the mobo works but the cpu or the ram are malfunctioning?
(BTW i know the monitor to be good, and the cable.) Any help? Checked out the link site, very nice.

It could be bad, yeah. If you haven't already tried testing it outside the case, laying on cardboard (the motherboard, not you 😀) then you might as well try that before you box it up and RMA it. That would eliminate the possibility that the motherboard is shorting out on the case somewhere.

After i read your highly informative build it yourself guide, I decided to boot it on cardboard. So i'm going to start the rma process... *sigh*

Thank you so much for your help.

My only comment is that it is highly unlikely for that PSU to drive that system stabilly, even if it is not the main problem. With all the money you just dumped into all that nice hardware, your going to need to dump at least another $80 on a good psu (antec/ocz/enermax).
