I need someone with a Nikon to help me

SAWYER

Lifer
I bought the 50-135 ATX Tokina and before I list it on ebay I would like to have someone with a Nikon with an af motor to test this lens. Would anyone be willing to let me ship the lens to you and pay for shipping back to try it out for me?

Where are you located? Maybe you can find someone local to make it a little easier. You could also go on craigslist and look for someone selling a af motored camera and ask if you can come check the camera out with your lens to make sure the camera's af motor works.

Try it with manual focus.

Then try turning the small metal screw in the lens base and see if it will AF. You will have to turn it many times.

If both work, the odds are good it's fine.

You seriously want to send your new lens to some random person?

Failing that, take it to the camera store and try it on a D7000 or D3.

Best Buy is a good option. They let you bring your own SD card in to test out their cameras. I don't think they'll have much issue with doing the same with a lens.

I would say your best bet is to go to Best Buy. The folks working in the camera section won't need to be experts in order for you to perform this test.
