I need some video recording and editing software

I need a program that will record video of my computer screen. This is not for video games but rather me playing online poker, which is about as intensive as web browsing. Once I have this video I will need a program to edit the clips. This will be as much as basic chopping all the way to adding music and transitions.

Please recommend to me both the best choices and free alternatives.

Thank you.

2.0 is freeware. After 2.0 I think they put out pay versions and/or limited free versions.

This program is nice and simple but the framerates I'm getting for just recording a 640x480 window are horrible. Any suggestions or should I just try for FRAPs?

Windows Media Encoder 9 might be worth dabbling with. It can do screen capture and it's free, search Microsoft's site for it.

I found this site which has a nice Camstudio lossless codec on it. Using that I can record a 640x480 window for about 15FPS. That's OKAY, but I was hoping for more like 30FPS at 1600x1200. Maybe that's asking too much, but I should be able to get at least 30FPS on a 640x480 methinks.

I'm going to look into FRAPs and see what if it'll work.

Recording video at 1600x1200 at 30fps is sortof like playing it, only harder :p
there is also the techsmith codec which is really amazing for desktop recording

the history of camstudio is like this

They make camstudio 2.0, freeware.
Some company think heey good software lets buy it. They release the same 2.0 version as 2.1 but only limit its features unless you buy the full version.
Then Macromedia comes in and buys that other company, they rename the software to something else and rise the price. Not sure if they added any new features though.

Okay so far I've recorded three clips with Camstudio. I used the Camstudio lossless. The smallest one is 340MB. I tried to play in WMP and VLC and had problems. WMP would stop playing the vid after a few seconds (it would just quit) and VLC wouldn't even open the files. WTF?
