I need some very durable mice.

I had just bought 3 new (small) mice for kids at a childcare center and one week later found them broken into pieces. The MS Basic optical mice seem to be lasting a while so I'm wondering which inexpensive, basic optical mice you think are most durable. I would prefer USB cause the biggest problem is bent pins from kids moving a mouse from one pc to another.

AFAIK MX310 Logitech mice are VERY durable for their price... They feel durable too 🙂

I still have mine, but I got a mx500...

actually I had a cheap logitech mouse button clicking broken from clicking too hard for too long 😛 Now MS basic usb optical mouse for a year under intense use and its ok. But its not really good for gaming tho, not much precision becuz its cheap 😛

I had just ordered 18 of the Logitech Value Optical until I realized they are ps/2 and not USB. The kids always mess up the pins so I had to cancel the order.

If they are not smart enough to not destroy the equipment, then they have no business using a computer !!!!

Have you ever heard of the word, "DISCIPLINE"

I would say that brand names (microsoft/logitech) seem to make tough mice. Still, i would try to get the kids to destroy less mice.

The deal is:
1. it's a profitable business.
2. I don't own it, I just supply and support the computers
3. these are inner city kids some of which uhh... have issues.
4. it's just 1 or 2 kids who do most of the abuse
5. there's profit even with the "bad" kids
6. parents like to see computers
7. I get paid to do this, so I dont' want the owner to get so frustrated as to pull the computers

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Please be more specific.

Please keep in mind that they need to be on the inexpensive side. Why? Cause no matter how much is spent, they will be destroyed. It's just a matter of how long before their weaknesses are discovered.

lol u are lucky we have optical tech now. ball mice woulda been a nightmare.

do a small test, how long does a 8 dollar mouse last?

new egg has a 4dollar thing

i've had the mx310, its solid like any lo\gitech, but i doubt any of us really truely abuse our mice and know exactly how much smashing they can take..lol🙂
buttons might go..but optical tracking is just reliable😛
so go buy a few of each and report back with a durability review🙂

i haven't used a trackball recently. can the ball be removed easily from the top. i just know its optical now so that would be pretty good as suggested above..with the glue...
could take a lot of dirt and still keep ticking. i'm sure they'll become a bio hazard after a while though lol

Well, I ordered 10 of these from Provantage.

That's exactly what I was about to suggest. I have about a half dozen of these sitting around in various closets because eventually, everyone wants an extra button or two on their mouse. But I've never seen one actually break. They're cheap, durable, highly compatible... there's really nothing more you can ask for in a no-nonsense mouse.
