What are some good songs with awesome bass? Any genre. I've gradually learned to appreciate bass and bass players, who often go unnoticed.

Best baselines have always been from rap songs, here's a couple ones I like that aren't overly-bumpy.

Trick Daddy - Dro' in the Wind
Twista - Victory or Death
Jay-Z - You Don't Know

Not really bass solos, just some nice accompaniment:

Camper van Beethoven - Eye of Fatima

Richard Thompson w/ Danny Thompson on double bass - Mingus Eyes

Yes - Roundabout (see also: Hold On, Heart of the Sunrise)

Faith No More - Epic (simple, but gets the job done)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERTT_sv8sV0

... and Falling to Pieces (for the classic drone intro)

this is bass skills

Wooten, a walking bass clinic

It took this long for someone to mention Wooten? Find some Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Sinister Minister and Sex in a Pan are probably my two favorites.

If you want more rock bass lines, listen to Zeppelin and Iron Maiden. The Who. Metallica through MoP. Rush.

There are too many to name, and I don't know the names of all of them. Try some jazz, some of the stuff the old guys did on uprights is amazing.
