I need some simple Home Finance software

I am a total wreck when it comes to my home finances. I have quicken for my machine, but it has too many features and "things". I don't need to know what my net worth is and I don't like how everything is like "integrated". I just need to track my finances and schedule a few bills. My boss uses some kind of macro for excel, but I hate asking him for anything computer related.

Why not use quicken (or MS Money) and don't use the features you don't need.

Or, check with your bank, sometimes they have online banking and they may list what software they are compatible with... and go from there.

I have and have used quicken, It isn't that bad, but to function correctly it kinda uses everything together. It wants "categories" for things and seems to be too organized. I just want something to keep a checkbook balance and to keep a simple ledger of what bills I owe and to whom I owe them to

edit: it also tries to plan for income taxes, and that bugs the crap out of me

I like MS Money 🙂

The downloading of bank statements is by itself worth the hassle of setting up categories for purchases. I don't even open my mopnthly statements anymore!

i use an old version of quicken that has less crap in it

How old? I have 2003, I also had 2000? for the Mac, but I don't think it has a PC version on the disc. I can tell you know exactly ehat I am talking about.

I use my ATM/debit card for EVERYTHING. including Mickey D's, Wendy's......everything, so I have a wallet full of like 30-40 reciepts a week and I don't feel like inputting a category for each thing, ugh.

i have quicken 2000 on one pc and 2001 on another (i lost my 2000 version CD and had to buy the 2001 version from ebay)
they put more crap on the 2001 version vs the old one, i hope to find the older CD someday

I use quicken 2004 now.
I do'nt have it set for dloading any financial stuff.
I have created maybe 3-4 additional categories in addition to what they have.

All I use it for is to input my expenses and then at the end of 2-3 months, when the wife wants to spend some major $$$, I open up the file and show her how much we spend on dining, clubs, shopping and shoes.
seeing the look on her face.......all plans are then shelved and I can proceed to peacefully watch my football.

I tried using the other gazillion stuff they have in quicken, but in the end decided to keep it very very simple and just track my expenses....that's all.
I rate quicken very highly...
