I need some recommendations on building a new rig.

I want to build a new computer and would like some recommendations on components. I want to use this machine mainly for photo editing, business applications, and Internet browsing. I have looked at reviews on CPU?s, motherboards, and video cards and have come to the conclusion that all of these components need to be balanced. I will not overclock and would like built in sound, firewire, Sata, and USB 2.0. I plan on using Windows XP and Linux operating systems. Prefer AMD 64. This machine will be the host on a home network and I only have access to dial-up so built in network connections might also be handy. Not sure what is better, PCI express or AGP 8x.

For what you are using the system for, i recomend going with an Intel based system. If your gonna video edit or have a gaming rig, then id go with AMD. Look at my rig, thats a gaming machine. For what you want to do, Intel would be the better choice. I have had both Intel and now AMD machines and Intel is better than AMD at what you want to do. AMD is better for gaming. Personally, my rig can beat ANY intel machine at almost anything, but im asuming you dont wanna pay over a grand just for the processor. Heres what i would get if i were you:

Intel Pentium 4 2.4 w/ 800fsb
Asus p4p800 Deluxe
2x512 of decent memory at ddr 400(your preferance)
Geforce 6600GT
OCZ 480 psu
74 gig Rapter HD

You say you dont wanna overclock, but should you change your mind with the components i suggested, you could VERY EASILY get your rig to this:

Intel Pentium 4 2.4 @ 3.0 1000fsb
Asus p4p800 @ 250 fsb
ddr 500
Geforce 6600GT
OCZ 480 psu
74gig rapter

And it would cost nothing to do it. What i did was recomend quality parts that happen to over clock really well. So either way youd make out great. But, what you do is buy what i said, and after time when its time for an upgrade, overclock to what i said and yooll be all set. Now, you wouldnt need anything extra to overclock either as the stock heatsink would cover that overclock no problem. You basically cover yourself for the future and all for free. Also, youd be able to game if you want to and it wouldnt even be half bad. My rig(look at sig) is AMD, but its because im a gamer and thats what AMD does best. Good luck and hoped this helped.
