Hey guys , I don't visit this forum much these days and am way out of
whats going on in the computer hardware world.

Anyhow I am currently on an Emachines T5086
the graphics are a Intel 950 on the motherboard.

It has an available PCI express slot and the PSU is 300 watts.

I only am gonna play World of Warcraft.
The game looks fine @ 800x600 with the
Intel 950 but its not stable. I think its a
frame rate issue, the screen goes black
every 5 min or so.
Not sure whats up but id like to just get another
video card.
I only have 300watts to work with.

What low end video cards are gonna work well with
300 watts and perform well on WOW?

thank you

Game always ran great for me on a 2100+ athlon, 1 gig ram, ATI 9700 pro. I think i built that system 4 years ago. WoW is not a very graphically demanding game.

A 6600GT requires extra power to run and may stress that power supply. A 7600GT on the other hand uses less power and performs much better. In the op's case a low end 8 series Nvidia or a low end 2X series fron ATI would probably be the best bet for WoW if he wants some eye candy to go with that performance.

I second the 7600gt recommendation for your situation for best cheap solution. If he wants to open up the wallet and get a later gen card, then more power to him, but asking for a low-end card sounds like he wants to save cash. The 7600gt is the best low-end card and will play WoW no problems.

The only reason why I recommend the low end current gpu's in this case is that they are really easy on the power. A 8500GT will have excellent performance with WoW but will be easier on his power supply. A 7600GT does not require extra power to be connected, but will still probably stress that power supply.

This MSI 8500GT should also fit the bill. $58 after rebate is a great deal.

It should be about 10x faster than the onboard graphics you are using now. And it'll be more than capable of playing WoW with very little power consumption.

X2

Good silent cooler on this one

Yup, that's why i recommended this one, cheap, decently fast and a nice quiet fan on it. I've used several of these cards in customer's pc's.

A 6200 will work fine, assuming you can find one. At least a lot better than that Intel integrated crap you have there ATM. Also, I wouldn't stress that E-Machine's PSU if I were you. They have a nasty reputation for blowing quite easily.

7600GS for around $60AR. I had one as a go between and I could run BF2 maxed out on 1280x1024 with 2x/4x no problems. That was with the rest of the hardware in my sig.

Also got around 31k in 3dMark01 & 11k in 3dMark03 with that card. I'd chose a 7600GS over a 6600GT or 8500GT anyway. My EVGA clocked at 450/800 on stock cooling.

Edit: My friend runs that card to this day on a 250WT Generic Compaq PSU....no problem in the months he's had it since he bought it off of me.

Its decent but I wonder if the 8500GT is alot better or?

That MSI 8500GT is easy on the PSU?

The box stated a 400watt PSU is needed,
mine is 350.
I bought the 8400GS locally and can exchange it for that
MSI 8500GT , its $99 but its local and they have a great
return/exchange policy.
I paid $59 for the 8400GT...so the 8500 is $40 more.

Id kinda expect to get a good 30-40% improvment.
, maybe that is asking for too much??

Thanks guys

The 8500 GT should still be ok on a 350 watt psu. It will perform quite a bit better on gaming than a 8400GS. The 8400GS is really not meant for gaming at all. It is a good card for a media center pc but is quite a bit crippled compared to the 8500GT on up.

The graphics card companies put higher requirements for a power supply than is actually needed on the box to allow for other components you may add that draw a lot of power. As long as you add nothing else, you should be fine.

If you would have read the thread you would have found out that the 6600GT draws too much power and requires extra power to be plugged into the card. The op's psu does not have the overhead to cover that much power.

Thank you soonerproud, so a 7600GT or 8500gt would be the best cards
for my 350w psu?

This is the store I am buying from......

http://www.compucare.com/

they have that msi 8500gt .

I am going to go ahead and pull out the Asus en8400gs
I bought and exchange it for something better.

Even though , this card certainly does better than
my onboard Intel 950.

thanks again.

Of course the 8400GS is faster than your onboard, but the 8500Gt is signifigantly faster than the 8400GS. You should definitely return the former and buy the GT.

You'll be much happier.
