Hi, I'm Yaroslav, writing from Toronto. (first time poster - thats why so formal 🙂)

I've recently bought an asus maximus formula, and crucial ballistix memory (pc8500). my CPU remains a Pentium 4 (I'm gonna upgrade to those new 45nm quads that are coming soon), but my memory has died; first it was constant crashing in counter strike then I couldn't even boot, after running memtest, I arranged an RMA. I don't know much about overclocking but i have been reading on these forums & others and I think I kind of understand it. I plan on overclocking the CPU which I will buy, and apparently the well performing ram has micron d9 chips? So as I understand it all these manufacturers simply buy these memory chips from producers and put them together, and the d9 micron chips were the best, (obviously not the cheaP ballistix I bought which must be Powerchips?)

I would only be needing 2gb of ram & I would like to overclock the 1333FSB quad core.
My question is are these kits the ones containing the acclaimed Micron d9 chips?:

So far I understand the Team Group Extreem ram is best, and cheapest 🙂 .
Which brings me to my next point, I live in Canada and newegg doesn't ship here and on NCIX the ram is like $280 (ya I know its crazy). So would anyone be willing to help me get it here to Canada?

Any help regarding memory selection for overclocking the upcoming gen of intel quads would be appreciated, especially from mr. n7, seeing how he knows everything about memory.
 
Man, that's sad, but Toronto is the worst place in North America to find parts.

Canada Computers sucks, but it would be the only place to find it. But anyway, I checked it, they don't carry any of them anyway. I also checked Tigerdirect. No dice, they are even worse.

I talked to some people, and everybody seems to be stuck at NCIX.

Maybe you can try ordering it at smaller stores. There's a good one on Bloor, two blocks west of Dufferin. It's called Hitech Compunet. They usually take orders. I don't know if they would be able to find those brands, but it's your best shot. Other than that, NCIX or OCZ memory forever.

You can try searching for your ram on PriceCanada. They search all the retailers that are based in Canada.

DirectCanada typically has a pretty good selection of hardware as well. As an added bonus that since they are out of province you don't get charged PST (we all know that we pay way too much tax up here).

Your Ballistix that died would be Micron, since it's Micron that tends to die more than the other types actually.
I don't know why there are so many problems with Ballistix...pretty sad considering Micron owns Crucial...

Anyway, i know that Micron D9GMH/GKX does clock the best of all DDR2, but it takes considerable vdimm for really high numbers.

My biggest issue with higher end Micron-based stuff is the pricing right now.

I have a really hard time recommending 2x1 GB when 2x2 GB kits are so cheap.

And yes, the kits you linked to do all use Micron D9GMH AFAIK.

I'd suggest just sticking with what you get back from RMA, since there's no way i can suggest spending $150 on 2x1 GB.

How about getting a good 2x2 GB kit?

Hey thanks alot, I like the Gskill kit you found, good price too, and it'll come in handy cause no matter how much I say I'm not gonna go vista, I one day will.

I just found the Scythe Kama Connect I've been looking for over there.
