Hey,

Ive posted about monitors before, but I wanted to make this post more direct.

I needed some advice reguarding the mentioned monitors - the Viewsonic 191 or the Dell 20inch monitors are the ones that im debating against.

Im mainly going to use this monitor for my productivity stuff (office, surfing) and then a little bit of gaming and some occasional video.

I'd say a 65 - 35% split with more surfing (or at least I would hope - games take up al ot of time :p )

I have a Radeon X800 Vanilla

I heard that it would be hard to drive the 20inch monitors are their native rez - my main concern..
If you think it isn't going to be hard pls let me know.

The 19inch Viewsonic looks sweet...
But the 2005/2001 are both about 500 bucks - and the Viewsonic is also...but its a 19inch.

I have a feeling most will say dell - if so is a widescreen okay for productivyt apps?

Thanks a million.

3D performance-wise, using the maximum 1200 or such vertical may be problematic however it should be possible to use less of the available area, say 960 for the equivalent of 16" centered on a 20" display with perfect quality. Alternately, 960 with scaling and the associated quality degradation is another option or indeed some folks choose to run at exactly half the maximum where possible (in this case 600) with the idea that the quality degradation will be minimized. This all depends upon the supported resolutions and available scaling options (panel and/or driver).

Hmm so scaling down (probably mostly in games - and I guess video if it can't handle it) shouldn't be a problem?

Anyone have experience with the dells?

Check out

http://www.tvcalculator.com/

for a site to compare the sizes and images feeds of different monitor sizes

Considering the 20" widescreen allows for 1:1 rendering of 1280 by 1024, it hard to see how you can "lose" by going widescreen...
