does every computer that's connected to the internet have it's own ip address, or does every network of computers(like a house with 2 computers) have one ip address between those 2 computers?(as youcan see i dont know much about networking)

and would an ip that's really close to another ip like **.***.**.98 and **.***.**.54(*'s = identical numbers) mean they are from the same house or could it just be a coincidence that they are so close?

thanks

Welcome to AT Network Forum.

Yeah, every computer must have its own unique IP.

However there are External IPs given to an Internet connection by the Internet provider, and Internal IPs, in cases of few computers configured to share one Internet connection and a local Network.

From the information you provided it is impossible to know what is that you have there. (you have to provide the first three digits and explain what you are afraid of).

Read this it might help you, http://www.ezlan.net/ip_mac.html

every computer that communicates on a network has an ip address. however, not all these addresses will be routable in the internet.

for example, a house with 4 computers. they will typically have 1 ip address for their WAN that can communicate on the internet, and the router will assign private addresses (not routable in the internet) to the computers. when a computer wants to communicate to the outside world, the router will NAT, or translate their private ip address to the public one, allowing them to communicate.

sometimes close ip addresses can mean their from the same region, more so when you're dealing with home isp's. however this is not always the case.
