I need some laptop advice

Alright, this is getting so bad that I need some laptop advice. I've gone through a huge amount of laptops, and I literally can't find the right one for me. Let me first list the ones I've owned:

-Apple PowerBook G4 500MHz (awesome computer, best I've used, but the screen went out)
-Apple iBook (slowest thing I've ever used)
-Dell Inspiron 5100 (fast hardware, horrible keyboard, thick)
-Compaq Presario 2190US (thin, but slow hardware)

I'm beginning to think I'll never find a laptop I really like. I have about $750 to spend. What brand/model would you recommend, and why? Big issues with me are thinness, and keyboard feel. I type a good deal of stuff for my job, so that means a lot to me. I'm just so lost....any advice would help.

The Presario has a few issues that, if anyone knows how to fix, would help me greatly.

1. The little scroll thingy stopped working. I'm not sure if it's a driver problem, or what. What can I do?

2. This thing has a mini-pci slot---which brand of card do I have to get?

Thank you,

Aaron Baker

There's a nice Toshiba with 15" screen and great keyboard for about $900 after rebate, search "toshiba A15" at buy.com

IBM has excellent keyboards and great build quality. I think they have a thin - light model for around $1,000

For $750 you are stuck with HP/Compaq, Gateway, Dell, or used.

If you really USE a laptop instead of just playing with one, IBM is the way to go. The advantages are so many I couldn't even begin to list them. I went through a few brands until I got one and I laugh at myself all the time for not having gotten IBM earlier. I have a R40 centrino. Check on ebay for ibm refurbished at a good price. Mine still had the factory protective film on the unit. Good luck.

tiap, where did you buy your ibm from (which ebay merchant)? THrough IBM directly, or through one of the merchants that claim to be IBM business partners?

The reason I'm asking is that there seem to be some really good deals: Link here

I was just curious; thank you.

I got mine from IBM on ebay. It was their global leasing department I think. Mine was new, maybe I was lucky. Came with 1 year new waranty. Extremely happy with it.
