I need some IT information

GoingUp

I am doing a cost analysis for work and I need to know industry averages on how much time is spent setting up and maintaining a server per month. Anyone know where I can find this sort of info? Google hasnt been much of a help.

Im looking for something along the lines of, "a server requires X hours per month of maintenance"

Thanks 🙂

Linux/Unix or Windows?
What's the server function? E-mail? Database? Web?

I can say from personal experience that it takes me about 4 hours to really setup and securely configure a Windows server. After that, I average about 1-2 hours per month at the most checking log files, checking backups, etc. for each server. These are all rough estimates.

theyd all be windows servers....
as for the functions, i dont know what they would all be doing... im looking for some actual stats that I can cite in my report....

exactly - there should be very little maintenance...set it and forget it.

I'd say 2 hours to setup a server and 2 hours per month of maintenance.

theyre basic builders and architects....

I just want stats on a breakdown of how many hours a basic server would require for administration per month
