For anyone who has a Smart Power I have a question.

The back fan on the Smart Power wasnt spinning up on boot and I was just trying to verify 100% that it should be spinning up on boot.

The reason I am asking is because this isnt a cut and dry problem. I removed the Smart Power I thought was causing the problem from my Pc and tried another power supply. And it appears the motherboard is dead also.

So I cant say 100% if the Smart Power is dead. But obviously if I can verify that the back fan is always supposed to be spinning, then I can likely say the broken Smart Power was probably the cause of my dead motherboard.

Then at least I can send the power supply back and get something from Antec for destroying my entire system. Thanks for the help.

Also for anyone who has dealt with Antec, the warranty on this Smart Power I believe is 3 years correct?

Well I probably didnt do the smartest thing here but I needed to know what exactly was going on.

Installed the Antec Smartpower into a motherboard and system I know is working. System posted but hung almost immediately, couldnt even get into BIOS.

Thankfully the Antec didnt destroy that board. Put in a functioning power supply and the system got right into windows and functions fine.

So obviously the Antec Smartpower is the architect of my other PC's destruction.

I am in contact with Antec to see if they will do anything to compensate me for what this obviously flawed product did to my system.

Smartpower owners be warned, this powersupply has the capacity to destroy the components in your system. That is something I have never seen a bad power supply do before. I believe most have some sort of fail safe in them to cut themselves off before that happens.

I think this board has already reached a conclusion that Antec SmartPower 2.0s and TruePower IIs are crap and usually die within 8-9 months. The back fan should not spin on the SmartPower 2.0 unless it's loaded and getting hotter. It's the fan that's inside that should spin all the time. Unfortunately, the capacitors usually start getting screwed up before the back fan starts spinning and unloading hot air and that's why there's always reports of defective PSUs and dead components.

You can stop spouting off in every thread about a dead Antec PSU that Antecs suck, it's only the older ones, and we all know they suck already.
