Hi!
I have a 60GB ATA hdd that started to make some high pitch noises I dont like.
I formmated my other 80GB SATA drive and did a Norton Ghost Disk copy on it and at the end I got this error:

"Error EC8F17B3: Cannot complete copying of (C:\) drive. Error EC8F0409: Cannot copy source drive to destination location. Warning A7C3001B: Win32/Win64 API FSCTL_LOCK_VOLUME(\\?\Volume{a5d45aeb-4b24-11db-a641-806d6172696f}\) failed. Error EBAB03F1: Access is denied.
Details: 0xA7C3001B
Source: Norton Ghost"

Can anyone please help?

Ghost 2003 is usually bundled in with the newer versions. If so, boot from that cd and do the disk transfer from there. Google suggests EBAB03F1 is kind of a general Ghost error that usually indicates a file is in use by the system and thus cannot be copied. When booting to a Ghost 2003 cd, the benefit is you're guaranteed no files are in use.

Actually, if the drive is making some new noises, could be a sign the drive is starting to break down, which can make copying more difficult. If you do have ghost 2003 cd to boot from, the program is in the support directory, and run it by:
ghost /fro

Oh ya it makes sense.
It's impossible to do a 100% ghost when running the program in the OS you want to copy since some files are in use.
I don't even see why they offer this option then.
I'll try to find Ghost 2003.
Is Acronis True Image better than Norton? Or does it still run in Windows?

On a side note, when I formatted my destination SATA drive the only folder that's left is the "System Volume Information" that has "access denied" when i try to open or delete it.
Could this "access denied" message be the same one I get from Norton Ghost? Or is it just a coincidence?

It's different.

Ghost should be able to work around these issues, but it seems it's having an issue. I'll assume you've called Symantec and they were no help. I know that the Ghost boot CDs that I've used cannot take advantage of SATA controllers sometimes they aren't seen) with old versions of Ghost; ymmv.

A simple option is to built a BartPE boot CD, including the appropriate SATA drivers, so you can do the Ghost within BartPE, running the Win32 version of Ghost.

Another is Acronis TrueImage - v11 was recently on sale for $11 or so from Dell, and $15 from NewEgg. That includes a bootable CD that will handle SATA drives.

I'm a bit surprised your drive manufacturer didn't include an imaging utility with the drive - most do, if you buy retail.

You may be able to use the free 15 day trial edition of Acronis TI, which I've read about but never used or seen.

Thanx for your help guys. I used Acronis True Image and it was so much better than Norton.
