I need some help with a customers desire for half mile range wifi.

He's willing to spend a couple hundred dollars. He owns a buisness that's 1/4mile from his home (doesn't have line of sight) but there are no hills or tall buildings between the house and the store-mainly a few dozen trees.

He has DSL in the shop and wants to broadcast to the house.

Thanks

Not necessarily, though it won't meet the wifi or few hundred dollars requirements. Try something in the 900-928MHz range, it should be able to blow through a few trees if there's not a lot of interference; though, beware that some paging systems and even GSM mobile can creep into the range so play nice, use focused directional antenna and only enough amplification to keep your link stable.

Motorola has an solid product, as does Trango Broadband (formerly Sunstream), though they're relatively out of alignment from that price-point.

indeed, we use motorola canopy at work. i love the 900mhz stuff, couldnt be easier to work with.

absolutely not cheap. but it can easily blow through more than a *few* trees.

I found a package deal for point to point-I'll post the link tommorow-it is $375.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions-I want you guys to look over the package before I pull the trigger.

Thanks!

Oh yes, I'm well aware of what it can do 😀 😀, but I can't stand overselling the capabilities of any given wireless system when 90% of the battle is an environment you don't, and can't possibly, control.

But yeah, it's cool gear and in all fairness, reasonably priced for its capabilities!
