Well, as far as I know trinitron is actually a type of CRT tube invented by sony and used by other brands (Dell, Viewsonic, Nokia, and others) The real question that I have it how much are you willing to pay? You can get decent monitors in the 19" range for $200, but if you buy a $400 FD Trinitrin tube fron Dell or sony it will look alot better. Are you going to do graphics design? I personally use a 21" Nokia with a Invar-Shadow mask CRT tube, this means it is slightly rounded and so has some distortion but has a bit crisper text. Anyway, don't know if that helped at all :)

Check out my Selecting the right tube white paper, it may help you decide.

Good Luck

Thanks guys.

I just want to ask another question. I use Linux or DOS alot of the time and do not run any Graphic intensive aplications. So I have almost decided not to get a trinitron moniter. What brand and type should I get?

I think I'll go with iiyama. They may be priced high, but I've only heard good about them.

I have an IIyama I'm still using after 6+ years, so they make a solid monitor. I rarely turn it off. If it went out, I'd probably buy another one. They are no more expensive than other good monitors so shop around. I bought mine from an online CAD shop and saved $200+ over PC vendors, but that was then.

I am also looking for a monitor myself.

I am debating between a 15 inch LCD (maybe the NEC LCD1550V for about $390 at Dell) or the 19 inch CRT (Dell P991 with the 15% off for about $300 at Dell).

It's hard for me to decide which to pick. I like the fact the LCD will be good for my eyes, but also like the fact that CRT offers higher resolution, larger screen area for less money.

Any one can comment on this? Thanks.
