I need some help on getting a quite HSF combo for my 8KHA+

Hey all. I need some real help here. I'm going for true silence and need to know what the best HSF combo would be that fit's my Epox 8KHA+. The 8045 is really out of the question because it dosent fit without a mod and thats something I dont really want to do. The Swiftech MCX462 look's like it may fit, but im not totaly sure, dose anyone know if it dose?. I was also thinking about the ThermalRight AX-7, but that may not fit as well. I have around $80 bucks to spend total, so I need to make this one count. I need the fan to be under 30dba as well. Can someone point me in the right direction?

My SVC GC-68 from case-mod.com just arrived via postal mail earlier today. I'm going for silence too. Some people have siad the stock fan on it is pretty quiet. I'll be installing it tonight or tomorrow, so we'll see. If it's not quiet enough to suit me I'm gonna put one of my spare Panaflo L1As on it. That should make it pretty quiet (although I have to see what the temps will be like)

oh, btw, this is for my T-bird 900 / Abit KT-RAID

Is that an 80mm fan on that thing?, it looks tinny but maybe thats just because of the funny looking base. That fan looks like it's only half hight as well, how am I suppose to mount a full hight 80mm fan on it?

28dba may make a nasty little hum, much like those low profile delta's, can anyone comment on this?. Also, are you able to put a normal 80mm case fan on it?

It's definitely an 80mm... seems like everyone has been buying these lately. I'm tempted to get one, but right now I'm running a 60mm panaflo that's supposed to run at 24v. At 12v, I can't hear a thing. Then again, I'm only running a P3 866 so I don't need amazing cooling 😉

bdog231,

I measured the fan, and it's about 24-25mm high. I just put one of my L1As up next to it, and the L1A is about 1mm taller, so I don't think there'll be an issue mounting a fan.

p.s. oh, yeah, as packy already said, it *is* an 80mm fan.

I know you'll get plenty more responses like this but... The 8045 fits my 8KHA+ without a mod and it does not even touch that pesky capacitor people refer to. I don't think I could fit much more than a string of dental floss between the cap and the HS, but it does not touch. Combine it with a Panaflo L1A and it is almost silent. Certainly it is much quieter than my hard drives.

The 8045 requiers to much air-flow IMO, there is just to much surface area to alow easy air-flow. The GVC-69 looks like it has a little room to breath. I have an Antec 1040B with 4 7v moded fans all blowing air into the case, and the 8045 wouldn't do to well with this type of set-up.

Do you have the fan on your GVC sucking or blowing?, which is the right way?.

As I said, I just received the GC-68 today, and the stock fan that's mounted on it is blowing. This is the traditional fan orientation. I'm not sure there's a "right" or "wrong", but blowing is typical. Or if there is a "right" way, I'd say the "right" way is whichever way gives you the cooler CPU readings.

This whole suck/blow HSF issue was discussed a week or so ago in this thread
In that thread, I thought Thera summed it up pretty well with this comment: "Just think of it like this... when you're hot do you sit in front of a fan or behind it? " (i'm not sure how applicable that logic is to HSF's, but it seems like it should be applicable)
