Well I will try and make this short as possible.
I have a DS3 and a retail 6400, i HAD a pair of gold ocz pc6400 that WOULD NOT boot (lights came on but nothing came on the lcd) with this combo, so i went back and got temp ram to isolate the problem. Well the patriot 5300 stuff worked, so i need to find the cheapest ram at frys to overclock this thing a decent amount. Thanks for any suggestions and what i would like is 2 gigs of non ocz and around 200-250$

I really wanted the OCZ btw :(.

I got Corsair XM2 DDR2 800, but my E6600 won't show up until tomorrow. Anyhow, Fry's has a rather poor RAM selection. Where do you live?

Seattle.

Thing is:
1. I have been saving for this and i am on a budget.
2. I have to have a computer on the weekends for work. Laptop wont do.
3. I have store credit at frys.....

Should i just buy a different motherboard?

You should have kept that ram. There is a known problem with the DS3 with certain memory that requires higher than 1.8v to boot, and some OCZ models fall under that. Booting with generic ram at setting the voltage to 2.0 in the BIOS then swapping with the OCZ memory would have worked.

Alternatively, you could have flashed to the newest beta bios which also fixes the problem.

i updated my BIOS and upped the voltage and relaxed timings trying to get my OCZ PC6400 modules working, but I kept getting BSODs like mad. My cheap ass k-byte PC4200 is working fine though, and I just ordered a 2x1GB kit of Corsair XMS PC2-6400 to replace the OCZ. I hear people are having much better luck with Corsair and the DS3. I have to say, the e6400 and the DS3 are pretty damn sweet, i already have mine up to 3GHz on stock vcore and when I get my Corsair I'm gonna try for 3.5GHz or maybe even higher!

Corsair XMS has always been the best choice for Intel motherboards. It's slightly more expensive, but worth it.

The DS3 is having lots of issues with several types of ram, not just OCZ, you can see that here:

@Buck,

Did you flash to the F4c bios? That seems to be the one that helps the most so far. You may have to use the generic 4300 stick to boot and set the ram parameters manually then save, power off and put in the OCZ.

I was able to flash to the f4 bios after i returned the gold sticks to frys. Then i read threads like this over at extreme systems and he was having the same issues i had even after updating the bios.

Buck,

you should check ComputerStop in bellevue. I know their prices kind of suck, but they do usually carry a half decent selection, and they are local.
