I need some Disney World honeymoon/vacation advice!

Howdy folks!

I'm trying to plan my honeymoon, we will be going to Disney World in June (which happens to be the most expensive time of the year). I'd like to stay for about 5 nights, any experiences and tips would be greatly appreciated. Right now I was looking at 5 nights at the Grand Floridian with a Concierge room. With the basic "Honeymoon Escape" package it comes out to like $4200! Of course I'm gonna check out a ton of other types of packages, but dag thats like $1000 a day when you add like food, airfare, etc.

June=most expensive???

Have you ever been to Florida in June?

I'd rather slice my own wrists then be there in the summer again.

I have memories of sitting in my friends dads house watching TV in the middle of the day, because the heat woke me up BTW, in a chair, not moving, less then 10 feet from the AC, and sweating like I was working out.

I thought Feb-Mar was the most expensive, because of school vacations myself. I know the rates go up right around the 12th of Feb, when schools have their winter break.

I should add that the Grand Floridian is one really nice place, but you're gonna pay for it. Big time too!!!

Hmm it may not be the most expensive time of year, but its definitely 300-400 more than their regular price for the package. Well I cant do much about the timing, we're getting married in June, the honeymoon should be around then as well hehe. I can deal with the heat though, I've lived in worse 🙂

It's been about 8 years since I've been to Disney World, but I would recommend to stay at one of the hotels that have access to the monorail (There's a name for them but I can't remember what it is). That way you don't have to drive to each of the areas like Epcot, Magic Kingdom, etc (do they still call them that?), park your car, then wait for a shuttle bus to take you to the entrance. I liked the convenience of getting into the monorail at your hotel (We stayed at Contemporary Resort) and it taking you directly to the front entrance. Also, I know that during the summer months is when attendance is usually the highest so that means longer lines for the attractions which you may want to consider.

They have transportation from all their hotels. Be it bus, monorail, boat, etc.

I'm pretty sure The Grand Floridian is on an island in the middle of that big man made lake they have. So you'd be taking a boat to wherever you go, then a bus, monorail from there. You should be able to take the boat (ferry actually) right to Epcot/Magic Kingdom, and you can rent those cool little speed boats right at the hotel if I remember right.

So if you can deal with the heat, you can afford it afford it, and that's for sure where you want to go. Then do it. However I think that's a lot of money myself.

How many days are you going for?

Oh duh. You said 5 days. 😱

I should add. You shouldn't even need a car if you stay in Disney, unless you want to go out of there. There is only traffic, and tourist stuff in Orlando/Kissimee anyway though. There are other attractions of course, but you can easily spend 5 days in Disney, and not do it all though.

Congratulation!
Some words of advice. Don't do what I've done on my honeymoon. After a week in the Kisseemee areas (did the usual Disney / Universal Studio thing), headed down to Key West, rented a scooter and broke a leg. Our one month honeymoon turned into two month in Florida but at least we didn't have to wait in lines when we went back to the musement parks. 😛
I wasn't able to work anyway, so I thought it was best to at least suffer in style. THANK GOD + all the doctors in FL for all those wonderful pain killers that made it somewhat enjoyable. 🙂 At least the wife got to see all the parts of FL (Panama City, Talahassee, ST. AUGUSTINE ALLIGATOR FARM, Daytona, Miami, Ft.Lauderdale, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, all the Florida Keys, FL Everglades and pretty much most part of FL states) that we initially didn't plan on which was great since it was her first time down there (she's originally from LA) but few hundreds times for myself.

To tell you the truth, I'm not a cheap person by any mean but personally, I believe the hotel accommodations could be the single largest waste of money on any vacations in Florida. Down there usually people enter the amusement parks when they open in the morning and stay to the time they closed, if they want to see/try most of the attractions as possible. Don't forget, you can't miss the last fireworks before parks'closing since it's one of the best attractions. By that time it's pretty late, then you would need to grab a bite to eat and don't necessarily spend all that much time in the hotels for which you had already paid a small fortune for. No matter what time of the year, you could find hotel accomodations down there contrary to popular belief and you wouldn't believe the differences in rates from places practically/literally accross the streets from one another.
I know while honeymooning you want it to be "special" but like anything else in life, it's what you make of it and the company you're with. Honestly, I believe 5 nights are going to be somewhat "short" and you two should be pretty occupied at all times. If you're going to spend most of the time down there (in FL - not her) locked in a hotel room then disregard all this BS.

If you're into all the finer things in life and have the right budget then Disney's hotel/lodging might just be the thing for you. Instead of renting a car, you pay higher premium toward the lodging and have easy access to all the Disney amusement parks by staying at one of their hotel resort. It's a kick to have Micky (or any of the other Disney characters) visit you at your suite during breakfast and people treating you like God. I don't recommend trying to hit on Miney either no matter how cute you think she looks. (but maybe not a good idea to spoil your wife so early into the marriage 😛) Last time I was staying at one of the resort there, the lodging alone was a little over a thousand a day but since the monorail is so close by, it made the trip to the parks just few blinks away. No need to rush or wake up early. Which would make it especially pleasant since the weather around that time would be very (VERY) humid to say the least. Did I say HUMID? I meant H-U-M-I-D!!!! (hope not for both your sakes) Don't forget to take your party clothes and hit the Paradise (I think) Island but don't let your eyes wonder or get caught while doing so. That would be bad.

Good advice man.

Oh, and any man who can go through Paradise Island with his ladie at night, and not let his eyes wander to the other well dressed young ladies. Either deserves a medal, or is gay. Period! 😀

There are some seriously HOT chicks in that place. :Q:Q:Q

Makes me want to go just thinking about it. Mmmmmmm. 🙂

We went on a Cruise that left from and returned to Miami and then we drove up to WDW for our Honeymoon. We stayed at the WDW Dolphin resort, it saw awesome.

We took the tram to the Magic Kingdom and a little boat that docked right behind our hotel took us to Epcot and Universal studios. We never made it to any of the other theme parks.

Our Hotel was right accross from the WDW Swan Resort also a nice place.

We were there in Sept (7 years ago) and like damien6 said. The humidity is terrible. I'm not sure how much the room was as the cruise and WDW was a package deal.

Yeah I'm rethinking about staying at the Grand Floridian, basically that adds at least $200 per night which I'm sure we could use the money for something else. 5 nights is pretty short for a honeymoon I guess, but thats all the time we're gonna be able to take off from work since we will be traveling again to our home countries later in the year.

I definitely want to stay at a Disney resort just so I dont have to worry about renting a car and waking up early, parking, and dealing with traffic. I want to be as stress free as possible hehe. Anyone have any experience with staying at any of the Disney resorts? Keep the ideas flowing! Thanks to all who have weighed in so far!

Went there with the fam in 94 and we stayed at a Marriot in the "Disney Village." It's a little further out, but we could just drive to a parking lot in the morning and take the monorail to the parks. I think that the hotel had a shuttle bus to take you to the monorail station, or there was some type of shuttle system in place by Disney. Ya save alot of money staying in a non-Disney hotel, but I suppose on a honeymoon that no expense should be spared.

I loved MGM -- that place is just awesome. Coulda spent the entire vacation there. It was over Thanksgiving, so all the Christmas stuff was out and all that jazz. Pretty nice. They had turkey legs for sale as you walked around.. Nice to eat as you waited in line for that Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 😉

We spent like 5 hours at Universal because there was so much other Disney stuff to do.

Reading this makes me so sad. Disney posted record profits the last 5 years, and Eisner made, what, 200 million dollars in FY 1999--and Disney has raised it's rates for everything, every year, the last 5 years!

The Florida attractions in Orlando are now the most expensive in the world. I personally would not give these bastards another dime of my money.

As far as that Hotel goes? I used to do service work at some hotels, including that one--and it is WAY overpriced for what you get. Take the extra 3 grand, stay in a Holiday Inn, and buy youself something meaningfull.

Or better yet, go to Vegas--you would have a nice gambling stake with that kind of cash.

Disney is a ripoff.

Well i recommend you to stay @ Swan and Dolphin resort inside Disney. It's around the outer part of Disney but its linked by a lake so you can ride free boat into Disney, which is pretty nice. Also this hotel is fairly modernized, i especailly like the architecture(two towering dolphin and swan 🙂)

You might also want to check out the Disney's Wilderness Lodge. The Grand Floridian is very nice also. That may be your best resort to stay at during June. You can enjoy the private beach...

I would call Disney and check into the honeymoon packages they provide ... My friend and her husband are going in April to celebrate their 2nd wedding anniversary and are saving alot of money by going on the honeymoon package rather than paying for everything seperately. I too and getting married (although in September ... Labor Day weekend), we haven't decided yet what we are doing for our honeymoon. Probably something less expensive being we are trying to save money to buy 5 acres of land, and start building a house on. Thats more important to us at this money than a honeymoon.

My wife and I did a bahama cruise/Disney world honeymoon. It was great. We booked through AAA and got a pretty good package deal featuring a carnival cruise and Disneyworld Dolphin stay.
