I need some advice on Dual Xeon motherboards...

Somebody approached me asking me for an estimate on a server based on a dual Xeon configuration (does NOT want dual AMD and I can't talk him out of it). However, I have very little knowledge of dual processing with Intel and even less about the motherboards that do this. Can anybody give me some recommendations? He's wanting dual 2.0 or 2.2GHz and I'm wanting to get the best ram performance possible, cost is not really a concern as much as performance is. For what he's asking for, I'll be putting 2-3 GB of RAM in hopefully, so this may be another concern with the mobo.

If anybody can give me some recommendations or point me towards some conclusive reviews, I'd very much appreciate it.

Thanks,

Not exactly related, but do your homework on board layout and case selection. Supermicro dual-Xeon boards, for instance, put the CPUs at the front end of the board, and will not jive with some of the cases that would have room for other boards of that size, simply because of where the CPUs are located.

I would look at Supermicro and Tyan first if it were me. Hope that's a start 😀 Edit: and of course, there's always Intel's own boards to consider too.

Thanks for the heads up on the CPU placement. I was considering putting this in a Lian Li tower case (well, that was just the first thing that came to mind). I'll make sure they work nice together once I can find some reviews of some boards and decide on one or two to more heavily consider. I'm just having problems locating reviews comparing the boards...

Thanks again!!

You might peruse 2CPU.com for feedback and/or reviews. Probably information overload over there 😀
