She is looking into a new computer, and is thinking about buying this system:

Classic Bare System with AMD K7 Socket-A Processor
Athlon / K6 Barebones Series
Mid-Tower, Enlight-7237, 300W ATX Power Supply
Motherboard, Micro-Star, Socket-A, VIA chipset, K7T Pro 2A
AMD Athlon-Thunderbird 900MHz
Ball Bearing Cooling Fan for Socket-A CPU
ATI, Radeon-LE, 32Mb DDR, 4xAGP, OEM
Floppy Drive, Teac 3.5", 1.44Mb
Built-in 3D PCI Sound Card
Keyboard, Keytronic, 104 Key Enhanced, PS/2
Mouse, Mitsumi with Scroll Button, PS/2, OEM, w/Mouse Pad
1 Year Parts, Lifetime Labor Warranty $482.98 $482.98
Subtotal: $482.98

Is this going to work for her? She just needs something for online gaming, some applications and the internet really. And please, don't tell me to tell her to build one, that is not going to happen. ;) I just want to help her see if she is getting ripped or not. Thanks alot.

You need a NIC or modem in there because she wants to do online stuff, otherwise, looks like it will suit her needs and the price is actually quite good.

Edit: warcleric, I just can't help myself... YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DOING. MOVE 'ZIG'. Phew, I couldn't hold it in much longer. :p

Edit again: As pointed out below, you need a hard drive, CDROM, RAM and monitor too!

I don't know what I am doing, that is why I am asking. I thought it seemed good, but if I say yeah and it's not, she will hurt me. She is a mean person you know. :Q

Tell her to build one :Q

Really, that system is not too bad for the money ;)

EDIT
ArkAoss has a point !

it looks like a good system. One thing that I don't like:

Change:

<< Mouse, Mitsumi with Scroll Button, PS/2, OEM, w/Mouse Pad >>

to a Logitech Trackball, you'll never ever go wrong. I love the little ball ;)

Yeah, switch the mouse

Don't just get the crappy built in sound, spring for a SB live. Get 256mb of ram (its so cheap why not?) and a decent sized harddrive. It'd be nice if the radeon wasn't LE but you take what you can get ;)

Where is the hard drive, CD-ROM or DVD drive, and memory?

What you have listed is a bare bones system...albeit a more full bare bones system than normal (the norm is CPU, mobo, case, hs/fan, floppy, sound), it's still missing some bones. ;)

I work in a Computer store.. The reason you see no Hdd,Ram nor monitor, is because it is a "barebones system",, However Gf.. Tell her to be very careful.. Barebones systems have little or no room to add any other components.. A "BareBones" system is a system which is allready built buy A Vendor and sent to Companies to be sold in bulk.. These are mainly mafg'd so computer companies could sale these pre built systems to large corporations and schools buying at mass quanties.. These systems dont include ram, hdd's nor monitar's...
just my $.02
Gf if you haev any questions abotu these barebone systems pm me :)
