I need some advice about my Asus A7m-266 board please...

Hi there,

Ok I just went to anandtech.com and saw that there was a review on the Palomino core and also new bios updates for the Asus A7m-266.

I presently have a Thunderbird 1.4 gigahertz and an Asus A7m-266 bios version 1004a.

1) What does it mean that my motherboard can be upgraded to a Palomino core? how does this work? should I try it? risky?

2) I never upgraded my bios before. How risky is this? what are the do's and don'ts? Anyone tried it yet? good results?

Thanks in advance....

To answer your first question....:

The Palomino support basically means you can buy the latest upcoming AMD CPU and it will work when installed on your motherboard.. Try it? I dunno, do you want another CPU? I'd definitely stick with your 1.4 for now! it's just a future upgrade path consideration...

2)
about flashing your BIOS.. try the Asus site (direct link to your board) and click on the BIOS option, it actually tells you how to do it... it's pretty easy, just gotta get a blank disk and make a boot disk out of it, i was nervous to try it once a while ago, but since i first flashed a while back i realized how easy it is.. everything went fine and it was only a couple quick steps...
there is probably no need for you to upgrade if everything is running OK, but when come time you want to upgrade to your Palomino, you might want to look into flashing the BIOS before you install a new CPU (for instance).

hope this helps!
