I need SERIOUS HELP!!!!!!

I had my PC running XP Pro with the SP2 updates for 3 months. In the middle of BF1942 XP crashed and the system rebooted. It came up with the following error

C:\Windows\System32\Config\System corrupted or no longer exists
insert xp cd, reboot and type r for recovery

or something like that. I did what it said and rebooted into recovery mode. I copied the files from the repair directory into the config directory. Same error everytime I rebooted. So I decided to reinstall XP Pro. What a mistake. It boots from the CD fine. I go and try to install with the option to leave the directory structure. Every minute or so Windows install says it can't copy a "DLL" or "exe" or "inf". I keep pressing enter for retry but it wont copy the file. I start over again and the same thing happens only it is different "DLLs" or "EXEs" or "INFs". I thought maybe it was my CD Drive so I switched it out. I've tried 3 different DVD/CD/DVD-RW drives and still the same result. I thought maybe it was my hard drive so I switched and tried to install using my backup drive. The same things are happening again. Then I tried different Windows XP Pro CDs that I borrowed from my two neighbors. The same thing is still happening.

HELP! I don't know what to try next to get it to install.

Thanks,

Sounds like a hardware problem.

I would check your hard drive with the manufacturer's utility. If it passes, I think you you have a bad motherboard.

Try doing the install with XP Pro boot disks.
I had a heck of a time trying to install 2000, using two different CDs on three different HDs (SATA & PATA).
After the boot disks for the OS, the install was as smooth as butter. MyBootDisk has something like a 14 day trial period. So make sets for EVERY OS you think you may have to install.
I made them for 2000, XP Home and XP Pro.
BTW... It's worth a shot, anyway It won't cost you anything to try. 😉

one of three or a combo

memory gone caput
cd is scratched or optical is going bad

my year of experience....is crappy memory. mb these days are picky ....get the good stuff and stick with it.
