I helping organize a scavenger hunt that a local American Legion is putting on to raise funds.

I need ideas for the scavenger hunt list. Nothing too "adult" in nature and the 'task' can be as hard/difficult as you want.

Any ideas creative folks?

Old political stuff, bumper stickers, buttons...make that item cover a catagory.

Well then I'd just hide their dentures and wooden legs and let hilarity ensue. :p

How about hard boiled eggs with important war dates on them, and then some sort of grand prize for the guy that finds the pearl harbor egg, like a trip for two to Florida or a years supply of depends.

not really...its's people that have been in the armed services.

but the participants in the scavenger hunt will be just people from the community

Have them see if they can get an article of clothing from somebody.
If they have a digital camera, have take a series of pics (pics of your choosing, not theirs).
Have a bonus item. Using vague clues, they have to figure out what the item is, and find it.

Think of products that used to be popular, but you don't see much anymore. Um, like, yeah, well...8 tracks! Safety pins always seemed to find their way onto scavenger hunt lists that I was a participant in, but they were just with kids running around bothering strangers.

Guess Rendition Verite 1000s and Voodoo II's wouldn't be a hit with the American Legion crowd, eh?

Is this a 'run door to door' hunt or a 'you have a week to find' type? I've seen both employed, the former was kinda fun, the latter turned into an episode of Oprah with everyone wanting to tell their story about how they came to dig through boxes to find each item. Bah to that.

Ooops, this one has a two week duration.

Actually the Voodoo II's would be perfect! The whole idea with this is to make it tough for all of the challenges to be completed.

intellectual "challenges" will be included too?

For example, the teams have to solve a trig or calc problem...

Scavenger hunt within the community is far different that a drunken speed race by a frat/sorority scavenger hunt.

One thing to do is buy those disposable polaroid cameras for each team. That way they can take pics and not actually take any of the items. Also if you have people on the list as items, have them sign the photo.

Also use fun clues like:
* Take a pic of the card game on 16th street (there is no card game, but there is a 16th street bridge. (Get it? Bridge is a card game.)

* have someone wait at a specific location. the people need his/her signature for one of the items. but this person makes a person or the group do a task before they sign. example clue--> Stacy is waiting to sign an autograph at the Shotzsky's bar. But you better be a Top Gun before she'll sign (hint: she'll make the group sing "You've lost that loving feeling" to her.)

Fun.
