I need RMA advice

My plextor 24x cdrw went out. I can RMA it to newegg or plextor. I read that newegg replaces items with the exact same one or credits the amount to your credit card. The don`t have any 24x listed .Anyone RMA`ed one to plextor?

Personally, I always try to RMA with the manufacturer first.
