I need quiet 80 mm case fans for my Coolermaster Praetorian.

i have the same case - i bought a vantec nexus fan controller, and it works pretty well. you also might want to consider getting a quiet GPU fan, as well as suspending your hd to reduce vibrations. good luck.

If you do demand silence, Silenx fans (don't hate me 🙂) are quite silent. They don't necessarily push a whole lot of air, but they are really quiet.

The only problem with low rpm fans is once you get them they might not push enough air for your liking. That happened when I bought a few PC Power and Cooling 80mm silencer fans. They were insanely quiet, but simply didn't move enough air for my liking. The better solution is to get high flow fans and slap a controller on them. You will have the best of both worlds.......

With the case I am using now, initially I did the same thing, but after airflow mods (ie cutting fan grills and wire management) I get better cooling with low volume fans than I did with my high volume fans.

It doesn't take much pressure to get good airflow when restrictions are minimized.

So what's the best way to get rid of those damn metal fan grills with small, air-restricting holes?

I'm no graduate of metal shop, but I know those metal punch-hole fan grills restrict a lot of air and serve little purpose.

So what is the best way to get rid of them?

The easiest way is with a hole saw.
You can also use a Dremel.
