Sorrie.. I know I should past at a different thread but I need help asap..
My neighbor has a 486 p33 computer that he wanted me to back his information up.. can this be done?
Can I just take out the old hard drive.. and put it as a secondary slave in mine? and then just burn all the information?
it doesn't even have a 3 1/4 floppy it's one of those 5 1/4 ones.. wont' even boot up.. so I am thinking just put it as secondary slave... is this okay? will the hard drive die?

thanks

okay i am crossing my finger 🙂 thanx semimaker..
btw.. supposedly there is window 3.1 installed in it.. if i burned it all on a CD.. ( i don't think the hard drive would be over 650 mb) can I run window 3.1 in the virutal dos??

you know something....i tried something like that about two years ago. my boss wanted to back up the contents of his hard drive and my workstation was the only one in the office with a burner. so i pulled his drive, stuck it into my system and promptly fried it. fried. it. ended up shelling out close to a grand to have a data recovery center salvage the data and burn it to cd-r for me.

good luck 🙂

don't worry AK...what happened to me was just bad luck. not sure exactly what i did wrong, but i fried the motor that spins the disc. all the data was untouched. i'm sure it couldn't have been that complicated for the data recovery people to replace the motor and copy the data out again. just take the usual anti-static precautions and you'll be fine.

<< why don't u just backup that HD on 5.25" floppies? >>

i would have.. if i have some 5.25 floppies lying around 😛

by the way thanx semimaker and Kru.. it worked 🙂.. I even tried to run 3.1 off my CD.. hehe didin't work because the autoexec.bat is pointing at somwhere else 😛 but other dos based program works not to mention his Data 🙂
