Trance is fun and all for a bit, but have you considered stepping up to more intelligent and depthful electronic music?

Download - III
Autechre - Tri Repetae

Grab either of those two, preferably the former, and open yourself to a whole new level of listening.

Sorry if I sounded like an a$$.

I'm sure there are some really inspired trance tunes, but given its popularity and its purpose (often as a music to dance/get high/both), much of it is cookie-cuttered stuff.

Seriously, grab Download's III - it ranges from skull-punching drumloops with twists and turns detailed complexity, to blissful, searing ambience, all on the same disc. These guys are VERY competent composers/programmers - I do some composition myself, and theres just something awe-inspiring when you hear a clink or a symphonic pad at just the right place and time.

Well done stuff.

Agreed on the trance tunes stuff

it's fun to listen to but most of it's cookie cutter stuff

try downtempo ;)

but for your tastes...

try george acosta, tiesto(obviously), deep dish,

for more intelligent stuff, christopher lawrence (is your daddy, but you might not like his music), sasha/digweed, dfuse, dave seaman, dave ralph

Well so far BlipBlop's suggestions were the only ones I don't have an expansive collection of already. I'll check those out BlipBlop, thanks. The Pauls are good, and I do like Astral Propjection as well as Art of Noise and those such groups . . . Any more?

EDIT:oops. Just posted and noticed 2 more posts! Haven't heard of some of the ones Synapsis and dparker listed either . . .time to fire up winMX . . .
thanks guys :) But keep em comming!

Oh, and if you want to explore downtempo stuff, a seminal album (actually a double-album) to pick up is Kruder and Dorfmeister's K&D Sessions.

Man, some amazing stuff.

seriously though.. if i am looking for intelligent, more matured music, I would be looking for good old classical.. none of these trance/techno stuff. i have nothing against trance/techno since i listen to it myself whenever i need something to get me moving.

I don't think it needs to be classical to be intelligent. Granted most music out there is crap, but there is the occasional band that seems to be a cut above the rest and really does create true music. Classical music is great, but don't think that is the only intellectually stimulating genre of music out there.
