I need new speakers

I am building a super dupper multimedia PC and i need a set of speaker to go along with the CL Audigy 2 ZS gamer Soundcard.

I want to be under $100 and must have a volume pod.

Currently i am using the Cambridge SW 5.1 on SB live

awwww, I got all excited when I read super dupper in a 7.1 thread...

You're going to have a hard time getting a nice 5.1 set for $100, let alone 7.1

Could you give us a link to the speakers you currently have? I looked on cambridge's site and looked at their 5.1 models and I didn't see anything that seemed like it would be what you have.

Do you have the model number?

The only 5.1 set I found was a megaworks set, and that doesn't make much sense.

Maybe this set (Logitech 5300s) would be a good option. This is for a refurbished set as the new sets are about $150. To make it 7.1 you could even use 2 satellite speakers and the sub that you're using now... it would be 7.2 then.

It might be worth it to wait until you can get a better set of speakers. If you paid $120 for your soundcard (going off newegg's price) I think it's pretty crazy to pair it up with budget speakers. In audio, higher quality speakers make a bigger difference in sound quality than electronics (in general).

What are you trying to accomplish with this set of speakers? Movies? Are you looking for pretty loud volumes?

I jsut want the best sound or match to the audigy2

I have thought about going with 5.1 and then adding 2.1. but i was not sure if it was doable.

I will be using it as a gaming/mp3/AV capture. I am in a large room and i wont necessaily be watching movies but i will be transfering VHS (2channel stereo) to DVD.

Sorry, I have the CS SW 4.1 not the 5.1.

$100 will NOT get you the best sound. $100 will get you something marginal, if that. That and the fact that there are no DVD's that have 7.1 tracks. I don't know about whether games are capable of having discrete 7.1 but something tells me that speakers for $100 would have to be placed rather close to you and putting 7 around you would be a big annoyance.

If this is a large room and you're going to be watching DVDs I would highly recommend waiting until you can invest in a better speaker system.

A nice speaker system is a computer component that will keep its value a lot better than virtually any other component. I think it makes a lot of sense to get a really nice one if you're potentially going to be using it for many years.

I still don't really know which cambridge set you're talking about (link?). The reason I want to know is that getting a new $100 set might not even be much better than what you have now.

It seems like you're looking for a really nice system since you got that really expensive soundcard. I think it would really be worth it to wait until you can get something like a klipsch promedia set or creative gigaworks or logitech z-5500. Maybe even a HTIB from onkyo or something.

Great sound really adds a lot to the Hometheater experience.

Maybe you could even invest in a cheap receiver and a pair of bookshelf speakers for now and then add more speakers and a sub later as budget allows.

The words super duper (first of all, dupper shouldn't be used in context with anything, ever) shouldn't be used in context with "less than $100", it doesn't work, at all. I paid $350 for my 5.1's (Klipsch), and I don't claim to have a "super dupper" computer.
Secondly, you'd be damn hard pressed to get awesome 2.1's for under $100. Still "jsut want the best sound or match to the audigy2"?, then you should be investing in some serious home theater equipment running you well above the $500 price tag.

Sorry but that was sad.....

Yeah, those are fine. You're not going to get anything fantastic for $100, but those are probably about as good as you're going to get.
