I need new earbuds

My ipod earbuds are dying so I'm looking for some canalphones for under $30. I've been looking at the Creative EP-630, Sony MDR-EX71SL, and the Koss The Plug. Any other recommendations? Or a definite best one out of those three?

I picked up some Sennheiser MX400s from Amazon for $15 shipped. I have to say, they're the best earbuds I've ever heard. They're not canalphones, but you should check them out.

if your looking for a really cheap route you can give apple a call and just give them your ipod serial number and they will ship a new set of ear buds to ya for free. free advertising for them as white ear buds = ipod.

Eh. They kinda suck. Too much ambient noise leaks through, find myself deafening myself due to that.

Sony MDR-EX81's...

They go for about $30 on retail stores...

Very nice and cheap 🙂...

Otherwise a step up would be the Sharp MD33's.

Aren't those similar to the MDR-EX71SLs?

Apparently they have a better midrange than EX71's so I've read on head-fi.

Oh and aren't the Sharp MD33s the same as the Creative EP-630, at least from what I've read.

Do they have to be in-ear, or can they be buds? And what about over ear like the koss KSC-75? The KSC-75s probably have better SQ than any in-ear thing under $30.

I'd prefer in-ear for isolation of ambient noise. I already have an over-ear set, they're just annoying to put on and harder to carry.

Well for $70 you can get an in-ear set that will have superlative sound quality (IM716). But for under $30, I'm not even sure you can get the good sony models.

I have these:

The active noise cancelling works great. Especially good for planes, yard work, etc.

Sometimes on sale at Target for $29.99 if you prefer B&M's.

Oh sweet that looks nice. How's the sound quality compared to some of the earbuds mentioned already?

Pretty damn good, IMHO. I mean, good earbuds w/o noise cancelling at the same price or more is GOING to sound better, but for noise cancelling these are tough to beat.

In general noise cancelling solutions offers inferior sound isolation and sound quality compared to the more plug-like ones at the same price.

So they say... Just rebranded...
but they sound REALLY NICE 🙂.
That's why I'm waiting when online retailers have them in stock (should be near the end of this month). So Cheap.

senn only has one good pair of headphones for under $20, and that's the HD201- definitely not the same size as an earbud. they actually sound about the same though, as both sound tinny.

if you like overpowering bass, the sony EX71s are fairly good. they're pretty popular (but don't get very good reviews from headphone enthusiasts). try them out and see if you like them.

Argh. It seems that the Creative EP-360 isn't widely available either.

Umm.. The Philips ARE plug-like earbuds. They have the three rib rubber inserts that go deep in the canal AND they're noise cancelling.
