I have always wanted a wood briquette model, but I would like a little more convenience at this time.

Main foods cooked:

pork roasts
steaks
chicken
some veggies

I might like a rotisserie.

I'd like to keep the cost under $600.

My new house a a stub for a grill, so I might as well use it.

I want gas for my first one. Easier to control the heat and thus not going to make me mental over effed up food. Once I'm good with heat, I can add a smaller wood fired grill.

I would recommend against gas. While it may be easier to use, food grilled on it will not taste as good as a nice traditional grill.

Got it. Don't use gas.

Now, what's a good gas grill that you have used?

Gas all the way. You have to be crazy to deal with charcoal all the time when all you want to do is eat and get on with your life. Gas is so easy and so much better than pan frying, who cares if it tastes a little bit worse than charcoal?

Whatever you buy, make sure that replacement burners are readily available, and check out how much they are. After a year, our burner was literally being held together by grease. When I took it out, it crumbled in my hand. A new burner cost like 60 bucks, and we had to use another brand's burner that didn't quite fit right because Sears didn't carry the replacement for their own grill (Kenmore).

Get yourself a Weber. Best gas grills you can get without spending an arm & a leg.I've burned up countless cheapo gas grills over the years, and this Weber gold is so much better...A good well seasoned gas grill will do everything a charcoal grill will do, and if you HAVE to have that wood taste, you can get a small metal box made for wood chips...They work amazingly well...I LOVE the ease and convenience of a gas grill, and no ash mess to deal with...
