I need lots of jazz, blues, and swing CDs. Cheap.

Cheap.

I'm pushing for an all-night swing/jazz/blues show on our AM radio station. Our overnights are pitiful. We have no advertisers and the show we have now *sucks*. I think music would be good, as we had a lot of success many years ago playing oldies overnight. The program director is all for it. Now we just have to get it by the owner/General Manager.

So in being optimistic, and in the spirit of trying to explain to him how cheap we can get the music, I need recommendations. Obviously repeats are not cool. I need about 250 songs to start out with. I also need enough artists so that I don't play BB King 5 times in one hour.

Any recommendations (be it albums, or artists) are very welcome. I'd like to get some obscure artists, like up-and-comers or things people may not have heard, and put it in with the standard Muddy Waters and such. Expand horizions and all.

Thanks!

Charlie Parker, Glenn Miller, Miles Davis, John Lee Hooker, Albert King, Dave Brubeck, Benny Goodman, Stan Getz, Oscar Peterson, Modern Jazz Quartet (MJQ) are all the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Go browse through the local public libraries' collection. You should find more than enough artists/albums.

Yeah, I'm going to the library when they open up. I'm going to see which ones have the sound I'm looking for.

Here's some heavyweights in the hippie jazz scene. Basically, these are jazz artists pushing the limits with improv and jam skills. More rhythm based with jazz on top. Great stuff and a huge scene that many people aren't aware of.

Garage A Trois
Robert Walter's 20th Congress
Galactic
Medeski, Martin & Wood
Bela Fleck & the Flecktones
Drums & Tuba
Charlie Hunter
John Scofield
Mike Clark
Sex Mob
Derek Trucks Band
Jacob Fred Jazz Oddessy
Karl Densons Tiny Universe
The Slip
The Recipe
OM Trio
Soulive

Ah, see that's what I'm looking for.

We have a bunch of records (maybe 3,000) but our record player is messed up. For some reason it's putting out our AM station under it.
