Try a different source, anything you can get your hands on, like an old DVD player or even an ipod, just to make sure there isn't a problem with the source input voltage.

When into the receivers manual audio settings and moved the sliders up. Tried on small and large. Ran on stereo and pure. No change.

That sounds like a pretty bad sign lol. My sliders work amazingly well!
Like Crashtech said try a different source and what source are you using again?

HDMI on my receiver is far louder than if I use analog. So I always use HDMI =D
