Is to be use as a file server and also to back up Quickbooks (besides the one that is online), they want to have also a onsite back up server. They have a spare pc, Celeron 600 MHZ, with 384 RAM, and cdrom. I try no to go the scsi way, I was thinking on a RAID set up, with two HDD, but I'm afraid the cost (RAID card, HDD and then the OS ).

I'm open for any possible and affordable suggestion.

Thanks

This should be posted in hardware. PM "Anandtech Moderator" and ask them to move it.

What is it? What OS is planed to be on it?

1. Is it Real Server
2. Backup for Files
3. Main Storage for Files.

If someone already bothers with such a project it means that it is important.

However if additional money for basic things like additional HD and RAID card is a problem that it means that it is not Important.

Jack, actually they want to use it as a back up for files (Quickbooks). The office is running XP pro (4 PCs), Office 2003, and they use Quickbooks as the accounting software, and since they back up every day, on CDs and also online, they want to have a server as well.

It looks like they are backing up already, so under such a circumstances you can install Win98 on the computer, put one solid Hard Drive, map the Drive to their main computer and show them how to save to the Win98 machine.

You can even make it easier with one of the Files Sync. Programs to sync with one click at the end of the day.

Easy2Sync (Freeware, 1,9 MB).:)
