the (supplemental) insurance company got back to me about last year's hospital bill. i am looking at paying 25k out of pocket.

You should be able to contact the hospital and negotiate that bill much lower since you don't have insurance.
 
Yeah I read an article in time and you can VERY often negotiate a lower bill. If they think that you're not going to pay it and declare bankruptcy you can very much have a good chance of lowering it.
 
wow. 25K in hospital bills!! good luck man. can you borrow the money from one of your family members and pay them back slowly after you find a job?

Probably scraped his knee. Hospitals are stupid with people who don't have insurance and charge them often several times what they bill an insurance provider for, to recoup money they know they won't make no most of their clients. Not very nice is it?
