I just bought a Verbatim external HD with 320 gb that came with Nero Backitup Essentials 4.

My computer automatically recognized the hard drive and I think I set up Nero right. So, I backup some important music files, etc. which came to about 20 gbs. Afterward, I notice that I lost about that same amount of GB on my computer HD. It's as if Nero duplicated the files on my hard drive instead of backing them up on the external HD. Now I'm afraid to do any more backups for fear of running low on gigs. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

It's important that if you are going to use a backup utility that you carefully read the manual and thoroughly understand what's being backed up. There are lots of backup utilities and I personally stick with the OS-provided backup or other well-known and well-documented backup utilities. Many backup utiltities make assumptions about the location or types of files you want to back up and if you have non-standard files or non-standard file locations, you can end up with needed files not being backed up.
