Hi all I am trying to get Quake 3 running again on this machine for my kids.
Its a celeron 900 with 384 megs of ram a maxtor 40 gig 7200 rpm drive a Ricoh 6x4x24 cdrw
Voodoo 3 3000 agp card
SB Live sound
It is dual boot with win me and xp
Quake 3 used to run on this rig with a celeron 450 and win 98 I think?
anyway now Quake 3 only runs for a few minutes most times then it quits to the desktop
It usually works longer in single player but online wont run very long at all.
I have tried different drivers for the voodoo card and am using the hacked win 2k drivers in xp now...same thing happens.
I have trouble setting the mouse wheel up too it is a Logitech Optical mouse tried it on usb and ps2
I am going crazy here ...any ideas?
I took the cover off and have a gamma 28 blower on the voodoo card thinking it was heat...but ...
Unreal Tourney and AVP2 NHL 2001 etc all run fine....
Any good ideas or tweaks?
thanks alot

Oh yea I tried swapping ram in and out too
The only real differences since it worked last as I can remember is the cpu going to a 900 and installing direct x 8.1
Maybe 8.1 wont work with the voodoo card at all?

Umm, did you install the 1.31 PR update on top of 1.30? If so, just uninstall everything (the right way through cntrl panel), and reinstall q3, then PR 1.31. my q3 crashed when i didnt remove the older PR patches.

Wait, i don't think you specified which OS you're having trouble with, but it seems like XP. Have you tried installing it on ME? It's not all too dissimilar from 98, it should run fine on that, and the v3 does have working drivers for it, i think.

Yes it has ME on the other drive...with no luck
I used to have win 98 and it used to work on that as well as me.
I just put xp on d Drive to try it out.
still no luck I disabled the firewall etc...

Have you tried putting 98 back on it? I had to install it on the 98 drive because of the lack of Open GL drivers for the Voodoo in XP. It would attempt to run in XP but the graphics weren't right so I never got to see if it would run very long. Also, when you installed it in XP, did you put it in the same directory as the ME install or specify a different one? When I first tried installing it to the XP drive I sent it to the same directory so it would be available in both operating systems, I quickly found out that it didn't like that at all.

Speed01 I tried both..installed into the same dir as win me then installed it into program files \quake 3 in XP on the D: drive partition.
same thing...but...
I can play single player and finish the game now...its online that i get kicked out of after onlye a few minutes ...
are there any network settings that I can try?
