that is why he asked what your argument is. i think you just want an introduction not a thesis. a thesis is a hypothesis more or less. to have a hypothesis you have to be trying to prove or disprove something. what level of education is this for? please tell me HS

Hi Nocturnal :).

What you need to remember when writing an essay thesis is that this really is what you are trying to prove in the paper. Say my thesis was :war really sux and we shouldn't go to war because people die and stuff. Notice how weak that is? All it's saying is that I think something is true and I will tell you why in the essay. It works but kinda weak.

Whenever you write a thesis, you have to make an argument. Whenever you make an argument, you need to use premises, support and come to a conclusion.

So your intro has all the premises.
The body has the support.
And the conclusion has the conclusion :)

What you have to remember about the thesis, is that is has (or should) ALL of these.

A rewrite of my earlier thesis would look like this:

Humanity is perpetually in conflict (notice this is an assumption and a premiss and is not really the thesis itself but part of the intro). Since humanity is in conflict, and since conflict is present in XYZ, the result is that humanity brings about XYZ. It's just a logical argument.

Or a less esoteric version would look like this:

Since humankind engages in wars and since wars cause death, humankind causes death directly and indirectly in this novel or event.

This is about the easiest way of arguing a paper and is called modus ponendo ponens. It works really well and is easy to follow.

So on to the actual question. :). How about: Since GWH presents the audience with a view inside the world of an intellectual at odds with the world, the setting, plot, and theme portrayed allow for ______.... Here you are trying to argue what exactly happened as a result of the theme, plot, etc and how exactly that relates to seeing Will in his world.

Making sense? Use action words and not words like is, am, being, etc. Start the thesis with clauses such as because, since, due to, if. Then actually make the argument so the reader knows what you are trying to prove and can follow your supports.

Heh. "Things you wish they taught you in school but didn't" by linuxboy. HeHeHeHe. Yeah so post if you need more help, I'll try to do my best and answer. :)

Cheers ! :)
