I need help with my Power Supply

Okay I have a compaq 5150 with a wierd PS, it has 3 connectors from the PS to the mainboard. They are P1, P2 and P3. I think i saw on the compaq site that P3 is for +3.3V, so i think that P1 and P2 are the main power connectors. I emailed compaq about this power supply to find out which wires are which. On P1 I have gray,purple, yellow, blue, black, black. On P2 I have black, black, green and three reds. I am trying to test this power supply to see if it is good. When I checked the reply from compaq this is what i got.

According to the serial number, you Presario is 5150. Presario 5150 has
12-pin ATPWR header Power supply connected to J12. The description of
the pins is given below:

Pin 1 Orange (power good)
Pin 2 No wire
Pin 3 Yellow (+12V DC)
pin 4 Blue (-12V DC)
Pin 5 Black (Ground)
Pin 6 Black (Ground)
Pin 7 Black (Ground)
Pin 8 Black (Ground)
Pin 9 Yellow (-5V DC)
Pin 10 Red (+5V DC)
Pin 11 Red (+5V DC)
Pin 12 Red (+5V DC)

Maybe it's just me, but the colors don't seem to line up. If it's important P3 has 3 black and 3 orange wires. I emailed compaq again about the problem and am awaiting reply. I don't know a lot about PS's so I thought maybe I was reading it wrong, thats why i posted here. Also when we do find out what the right wires are, how do i go about testing it for power.
 
If this helps, when plugging power into a mobo on an old power supply, the two connectors always go black to black (the black wires will be side by side in the center). Personally, I sould suggest ditching a ps you can't figure out and buy one you can. May I suggest an Enermax?...
 
Thanks for that info, but it doesn't help, I know how to install a PS, but thats not what I am trying to do here. AS for buying a new PS if you would have read my post completely you would have know that the PS I am trying to fix is wierd and has 3 connectors(I don't think an Enermax would work), secondly, I am not 100% sure this PS is dead, which is why I want to test it. Thirdly if the PS is not dead buying a new one won't help, even if I could find one. Thanks
