I think my motherboard is defective but I want to be sure before I do a RMA(I don't want to be without a computer for weeks).
The problem seems mostly related to the memory(2 x 2 GB). Sometimes the systems crash(BSoD) for no reason. Other times programs won't install correctly unless I physically remove one of the DIMM from the motherboard.
I don't think it's the ram because I've tested it with Memtest86 for many hours and it didn't find any errors. I've also tested my ram in someone else system and everything seems to be fine. I've tried different SPP Voltage and RAM setting. Even at 2.1vdimm, 667Mhz, CL6-6-6-18 (normal ram spec are 800Mhz, CL5-4-4-15) the problems are still there. If I try to run the stress test Prime95(p64v255)(the 64 bit version for multi cores cpu) I can run the first 2 tests( with no problem for hours), the one with no ram tested and the maximum heat one, but the third one, Blend(the one that mostly test the ram) fail after just 0.5 sec.
The other problem which I think is also related to the motherboard is SLI related with my two XFX 8800GT XT 512 . When I run a game or technical demos from nvidia with SLI disabled, everything run fine but when I activate the second video card for SLI, either I get weird artifacts or the games crash just after a couple of second, sometimes back to the desktop, sometimes with a BSoD and the computer must be restarted.
My PSU is an Enermax Infinity 650W and I've double check every cable connection.
My bios has been flashed with the last version (P31), I have the latest nForce driver and the latest Forceware driver(169.25). Vista 64 is up to date.
So what could I do to test the motherboard or other components to be sure of to know which piece of hardware is defective before I ask for a RMA?
Thank you for your help!
