I need help with my burner.

I think that my cd burner is broken, or maybe there is just something wrong with it because every time that I burn a cd, it changes the write speed from 20x to 8x write speed. I have tried 5 different types of blank cd's each of which is rated for 16x or higher write speeds. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Oh and my burner is a Yamaha crw2200e.

what burning software are you using? does it start at 8x and go to 20x or go from 20x to 8?, also have you looked into getting the latest firmware for the drive?

I am using nero 5.5. It starts at 20x and then it says changing write speed at about 4% of the way through burning the cd

People there said that it was because the drive was set to slave rather than master. Mine has been set to slave for the past three months during which time, I have burned about 200 cd's at a write speed of 16x or higher.

try updating the firmware, also try another burning program to see if nero is the cause, wouldnt hurt too bad to reload ur aspi either ..

First thing you should have done, and already mentioned by earlier posters, is try a different burning program and see if you still get the same problem. If you do, then it might be a firmware or hardware problem, but until then, try a different program.

when you say that you tried 5 different CD's, does that mean different brand Cd's?

it may be worth a shot, try another brand CD.
