well, ok, not so mysterious -- I live on a first floor apartment. the people who live above me have their window AC in the same window as mine, so as the water drips down, it falls onto my AC and creates a pretty damn annoying thumping sound every 3-4 seconds.

it drove me damn insane this morning... I hit snooze on my alarm clock, rolled over to catch another half hour of sleep, but every time I closed my eyes and started to relax, THUMP.

anyone have any suggestions for what I could possibly put on top of my air conditioner to somehow dampen the sound of the falling water droplets? the sound is just irregular enough to prevent me from blocking it out as white noise :( I need something that's not going to blow away any time there's a gust of wind, but also something that's not just going to absorb the water, because I don't want the top of my AC to become a water fountain for insects.

my only other recourse would be to move my AC to the other bedroom window, but that's an option I'm trying to avoid if at all possible, since that would require completely rearranging my bedroom furniture.

Attach a piece of yarn or something at the point the water falls off the air conditioner above. The won't see or care.
The water will run down the string to the end of it, no more drip.

I had that happen to me with gutter downspouts once. I bought some sticky foam-rubber pads and put them at the spot where the water hit. Worked like a charm
